With Election Day only 3 weeks from today, I'm curious to what choices I will have available to select from. So searching on the Virginia State Board of Elections, I've pulled up my precinct's ballot for the general election.
I'm pleased to see the non-major parties on the list, but seriously, is it really fair when media outlets (with the exception of C-SPAN) really shun these candidates because they're not the two largest of the nation?
Anyway, I already know who I'm voting for president, but not so much clear on the Congressional offices. No referendums on this day, just offices.
US Senate:
James "Jim" Gilmore III (Republican)
Glenda Parker (Independent Green)
William Redpath (Libertarian)
Mark Warner (Democrat)
House of Representatives 6th District:
Janice Lee Allen (Independent)
R.W. "Bob" Goodlatte (Republican)
S. "Sam" Rasoul (Democrat)
Rather than voting along party lines, more importantly, issues and candidate platforms should be considered. I'm going to compile a list of major issues and each candidate's stand on it in the next two postings.
This would have been beneficial on the previous election, but due to time constraints, I mainly counted out candidates who did meet the task of holding city council seats, rather than who would have been best.
I know that method have worked well if I was voting in the 5th district between GOP incumbent Virgil Goode and Democrat Tom Perriello. If one has to doctor up a photo for whatever reason, then that's all smoke in the mirrors. Be truthful and honest, and surely enough, you'd earn the trust and respect of a vote.
